If you know me you will know I am a keen birdwatcher. So imagine my excitement as I discovered the wooded thicket we now reside in is a hot spot for one of the most delightful little birds you can see in nature, the Nuthatch. As I stood on the newly laid decking and pondered a name for the sauna, one particular little Nuthatch decided it was time to call out to his friends, announcing his stake on a tree right next to the sauna. He threw his head back with vigor, calling as loudly has he could, needless to say this made me belly laugh for some time as I watched him shout out that he was the owner of this tree. And so, because of the pure joy he gave me that day, the sauna name was a given - Nuthatch - Nutty to friends, old and new alike!
Nuthatches: Nature's Acrobats
Nuthatches are charming little birds known for their acrobatic skills and distinctive personalities. Found in a variety of wooded habitats, from deciduous forests to mixed woodlands, these pint-sized wonders are often seen climbing headfirst down tree trunks in search of insects and seeds. With their striking blue-gray plumage and a characteristic black cap, they are easily recognizable. Nuthatches have a delightful array of calls, including soft, nasal notes and sharp, ringing sounds that echo through the trees, adding a lively soundtrack to their forest homes. Known for their quirky behavior, they often stash food in tree bark crevices, a practice that showcases their cleverness and adaptability. Watching a nuthatch dart and flit about is a joyful reminder of the wonders of nature! When you book your Basking experience you are sure to hear their call - I can point it out to you, I'm sure you will love the lovely wee creatures as much as I do after your time with us.
